Skiing at Mt Ruapehu Skifield

This video was taken while travelling up to the tourist's observatory area of Turoa Ski-field, Mt Ruapehu - featuring one or two of the many skiers on that day.

Turoa is one of the two largest commercial ski-fields in New Zealand. It is situated on the southern slop of Mt Ruapehu. Ruapehu by the way, is an active stratovolcano at the southern end of Taupo Volcanic zone, 23km northeast of Ohakune and 40km southwest of the southern shore of Lake Taupo. It is said to be one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and the largest in New Zealand. Not only that, it is the highest point in the North island of New Zealand.

The skiing season starts from June to October each year, though the snow and weather conditions play the important role in it all. We took this trip in September 2013 on one of New Zealand's most finest weather, according to the New Zealand weather forecast.

It is a really cool site and I would recommend whoever reading this to visit it if possible. One wouldn't regret visiting it. It is packed everyday in fine weather - which means getting there early is a good idea in order to find parking spaces (where the road ends - at the top).
